Scots Guards Charity

The Scots Guards Charity is a regimental charity rooted in nearly four centuries of Scots Guards tradition, dedicated to supporting serving and former Scots Guardsmen—regardless of rank or gender—and their dependants, including spouses, partners, widows, children, parents, and carers facing hardship. Its core mission is to relieve financial, physical, or emotional distress, improve quality of life, and ensure no regimental family member is left without aid, guided by values of loyalty, comradeship, dignity, and rapid, practical welfare assistance. Evolving to address modern military challenges like prolonged deployments, injuries from IEDs, and veteran needs, it acts as a "charity of last resort," providing first-tier emergency support before linking to larger agencies.

It funds targeted welfare initiatives such as poverty relief, disability adaptations, healthcare and rehabilitation, home/mobility modifications, debt relief, specialist education and training for children, respite breaks, and bereavement support for families affected by operational service. Grants also extend to regimental units, associations, and heritage projects directly benefiting the Scots Guards community, with annual spending prioritizing hardship relief (41%) and quality-of-life improvements (44%).

Eligibility is strictly limited to UK-resident serving/former Scots Guards personnel, their dependants, and affiliated regimental entities like battalions or the Scots Guards Association; external charities or organisations without direct ties are ineligible, and unsolicited applications are not accepted. Requests are handled case-by-case via regimental welfare channels or partners, with trustees reviewing on a rolling basis for prompt decisions, prioritizing urgent needs. Typical grants range from hundreds to several thousand pounds for individuals, and £1,000–£30,000 for projects, totaling £300,000–£400,000 yearly. Distinctively, it eschews open calls, focusing exclusively on its regimental family with low overheads, legacy-driven sustainability, and unwavering ethos of enduring, personal care.
