Said Foundation

The Said Foundation, a UK-registered charity established in 1982 by Wafic and Rosemary Said in memory of their son Karim, drives positive change through targeted investments in education and capacity-building, primarily in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine—regions of deep family connection. Rooted in the belief that education fosters enlightened leadership and societal transformation, its mission emphasizes empowering outstanding individuals and disadvantaged youth, including refugees, to realize potential and contribute to home countries. The Foundation prioritizes fully funded postgraduate master's scholarships at top UK universities for nationals or permanent residents of its target countries (Syrians displaced by conflict eligible), across open subjects, requiring demonstrated academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to social/economic impact back home. It also funds education projects for Syrian refugee children and youth—delivering over 190,000 opportunities—and institutional initiatives for leadership development, always linking to regional advancement.

Unsolicited applications from charities or organizations are not accepted; funding is invite-only for projects or partnerships with established entities. Open scholarships (the sole public stream) require prior university application proof; applications for 2026/27 open 1 August 2025 and close 31 October 2025, with interviews in March 2026 and decisions by June. Awards cover full tuition, maintenance, travel, and visas (£30,000–£50,000 equivalent), but exclude undergraduate, doctoral, or non-UK study. Distinctively focused on master's-level talent from conflict-affected Levant regions, it amplifies impact through merit-based, long-term philanthropy rather than broad grant-making.
