Royal Docks

The Royal Docks Trust (London), established in March 1995 as a registered charity, is dedicated to delivering community benefits in East London's Docklands, particularly Newham's Royal Docks area, amid post-industrial regeneration. Its mission focuses on enhancing quality of life, fostering inclusion, cohesion, and local opportunities through support for grassroots voluntary groups and resident-led initiatives. It funds one-off projects such as after-school clubs, skills workshops, festivals, sports engagement, and small-scale capital like equipment, prioritising resident-led (up to £5,000), youth-led (up to £10,000), and voluntary/community/faith sector initiatives (up to £20,000). Beneficiaries are local organisations demonstrably serving Royal Docks, Beckton, Canning Town, and Custom House residents.

Eligible applicants include UK-registered charities and community groups—especially small/medium grassroots, resident- or youth-led entities—with no formal income limits but a preference for those embedded in the locality; London-wide or external projects are ineligible. Applications are unsolicited via online form (written, video, or audio), post, or paper, with informal pre-discussion encouraged. The next deadline is 14 September 2025 for 2025-2026 funding (delivery March 2026-February 2027), followed by public voting and November decisions.

Distinctive for its Docklands legacy and participatory process, the Trust avoids unrestricted core funding, large-scale efforts, or non-local benefits, uniquely empowering hyper-local, often overlooked projects in Newham's evolving urban fabric.
