Postcode Community Trust

Postcode Community Trust, an independent Scottish-registered charity (SC044772) founded in 2014 and funded solely by the People’s Postcode Lottery, empowers smaller charities and community groups in Wales to deliver lasting benefits for people and the planet. Its mission centres on community empowerment, equity, inclusion, and environmental responsibility, providing unrestricted, flexible grants to resource-constrained organisations tackling social exclusion, poverty, health inequalities, and climate challenges. It prioritises grassroots initiatives enhancing physical activity and arts participation, biodiversity and green spaces, targeted mental health support, and aid for marginalised groups facing racial inequity, disability, or LGBT+ discrimination—especially in Wales' most deprived areas (top 15% on the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation).

Eligible applicants include UK-registered charities, CICs with asset locks, community groups, parochial church councils, and sports clubs delivering activities exclusively in Wales (verified by postcode), with at least one year of operation and signed accounts. Preference goes to those with incomes under £250,000, though up to £1 million is considered if aligned; grants cover core costs, projects, running costs, and capacity building, often multi-year.

Typical awards range from £10,000 to £50,000 (up to 75% of recent income, capped at 50% per year over three years). Unsolicited applications are via online form during short annual rounds (7-12 days), next in 2026 (dates TBA); decisions come in 4-5 weeks, payments in 8-12 weeks. Distinctively, it mandates Living Wage commitments, rejects bureaucracy for values-led simplicity, and excludes universities, higher education colleges, solely religious organisations, and non-Welsh activities, ensuring maximum flexibility and impact for under-resourced, community-led change.
