Nottingham University Hospitals Charity, independent since 1 April 2016, enhances patient care and wellbeing at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) sites including Queen's Medical Centre, City Hospital, and Ropewalk House. Evolving from predecessor hospital charities, its mission focuses on funding projects, equipment, research, and staff welfare beyond NHS core capabilities, driving excellence through compassion, innovation, partnership, and stewardship. It transforms health outcomes via strategic collaborations with hospital teams, research groups, and donors, prioritising innovative, evidence-based initiatives for immediate and long-term impact.

The charity supports hospital-based priorities like cancer care, children's health, dementia services, maternity, rehabilitation, diagnostic equipment (e.g., MRI, LINAC, robotics), staff wellbeing (e.g., sleep pods, centres), and early-stage clinical research such as pump-priming trials and pilot projects. Beneficiaries include NUH patients, families, staff, and the local community, with funding for capital builds, service enhancements, environmental improvements (e.g., therapeutic gardens), specialist training, and high-impact innovations aligned to NUH strategies.

Eligibility is restricted to NUH-led teams, clinicians, and approved partners; external charities or unsolicited applications are not accepted—proposals require internal endorsement via NUH Research & Innovation or Funding Development Team. No income/size rules apply. Typical grants range £10,000–£250,000. Internal funding calls align to quarterly trustee meetings (March, June, September, December), with deadlines communicated hospital-wide.

Exclusions cover non-NUH projects, core operating costs, and general community activities outside hospital settings (rare East Midlands specialist exceptions only). Distinctively, its tight NUH alignment enables rapid, targeted funding for urgent tech, research, and wellbeing needs, catalysing transformation for tens of thousands of patients and staff.
