Mishcon Family Charitable Trust

The Mishcon Family Charitable Trust, established in 1963 (originally as the Victor Mishcon Trust in 1961), is a family-led philanthropic entity governed by up to four Mishcon family trustees. Its core mission is to support general charitable causes across the UK and occasionally abroad, exercising absolute discretion in selecting worthy beneficiaries without prescriptive themes or strategies. Rooted in flexible, generalist philanthropy, the trust emphasises family judgement, continuity, and broad responsiveness to charitable needs, drawing on reserves to sustain consistent grant-making amid no salaried staff or public strategic plans.

It funds diverse organisations aiding children and young people, elderly individuals, people with disabilities, those of particular ethnic or racial origins, and other charities or voluntary bodies, encompassing project-specific work, core costs, unrestricted support, and capital projects. There are no fixed priorities by issue, community, or intervention, allowing wide-ranging backing for UK-based efforts, with recent annual grants totalling £100,000–£120,000 across multiple recipients.

Eligible applicants are strictly UK-registered charities based in the UK, with no income thresholds or size restrictions—spanning small to larger entities—though nearly all grants go to UK operations, primarily England and Wales. Typical individual grants range from £5,000 to £30,000, with flexibility for smaller or larger awards.

The trust does not accept unsolicited applications, lacking open processes, forms, deadlines, or public guidelines; funding occurs privately via trustees' discretion, often favouring charities with family or network connections. This discreet, relational model distinguishes it as a non-strategic, inwardly accountable family trust, prioritising enduring broad support over targeted interventions.
