Eligible applicants for open scholarships are individuals born in Africa (or with both parents born there), proven via official documents and a published work excerpt; organizations face no unsolicited pathway. No income, entity type, or religious restrictions apply, with a global reach but Sub-Saharan Africa concentration.

Scholarships award £18,000 over 12 months (£1,500/month), extendable to £27,000 for non-fiction over 18 months. Apply online (1 July–19 September 2025) with a 2,000–5,000-word excerpt, book proposal, biography, and proof of African ties; shortlists may require a sample chapter. Trustees decide directly, favoring deep, thematic engagements over broad or short-term projects, setting it apart as a niche champion of literary independence.
