Michael Sobell Hospice Charity

Michael Sobell Hospice Charity (MSHC), founded in 1977 by Sir Michael Sobell, supports specialist palliative and end-of-life care for people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses and their families, primarily at Michael Sobell House within Mount Vernon Hospital in Hillingdon, north west London. Its mission emphasizes compassionate, dignified, patient-centered services—free for all regardless of background—guided by core values of compassion, dignity, respect, inclusivity, and professionalism. Funding is invite-only for UK-registered charities with proven palliative care expertise; there are no income thresholds or religious restrictions, though geographic alignment with Hillingdon is key. Grants cover projects, core costs, capital works, and capacity building, ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of pounds (annual expenditure ~£1.07M), decided quarterly by the Board of Trustees via NHS partnerships—no unsolicited applications or public deadlines. MSHC excludes non-health projects outside its specialist field, standing out for its long-term sustainability investments, community engagement, and unwavering holistic support for patients and families.
