Matthew Good Foundation

The Matthew Good Foundation, established in 2011 by Tim and Matthew Good of the John Good Group, honours Matthew’s legacy by amplifying small charities through unrestricted core funding, enabling business as a force for good. Deeply integrated with the family business—which covers all operating costs so 100% of donations reach grantees—the Foundation champions innovative, grassroots non-profits addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially health (including race medicine), education, mental health, environmental sustainability, health inequalities, and community development. Its trust-based, employee-driven model fosters scalable impact via grants, pro-bono communications support, and programmes like quarterly ‘Grants for Good’.

It prioritises small UK-based charities, CICs, community groups, and social enterprises with incomes under £50,000, supporting people, communities, and environmental causes through flexible funding for core costs, projects, operations, or new initiatives—even capital if community-focused. Beneficiaries include hyper-local efforts like water systems, youth mental health, and literary programmes for disadvantaged children, with over £820,000 awarded to 150+ organisations since inception.

Eligible applicants must be UK-registered (or unregistered groups with a dedicated bank account), operating UK-wide but able to benefit overseas communities; applications via simple online form are accepted anytime for the next quarterly round (deadlines: 15 March, June, September, December; next 15 December 2025). Five shortlisted finalists per round are voted on by John Good Group staff, awarding £5,000 (1st), £3,500 (2nd), £2,500 (3rd), and £2,000 each (4th/5th)—total £15,000/round, £60,000/year. Exclusions: individuals, religious/political activities, sports, events, or statutory duties. Distinctively selective, lean, and rollover-friendly, it excels for overlooked small entities seeking enduring, voter-backed support.
