Haysac Foundation

The Haysac Foundation is a family-led charitable incorporated organisation established in July 2022 by the Harbury family, comprising trustees Dr Neil Harbury (Chair), Angela, Evangeline, and Daniel Harbury. Drawing exclusively from private family resources and company income—without soliciting public funds—its mission is to support charities advancing any purposes charitable under English and Wales law, guided by the trustees' evolving personal interests. This trustee-driven approach emphasises flexibility, due diligence, impact reporting, and minimal reserves, enabling rapid, discretionary philanthropy aligned with family passions, in line with Charity Commission public benefit guidance.

The foundation funds a broad spectrum of charitable activities through unrestricted, core, or project grants, without rigid thematic priorities, beneficiary groups, or interventions. Support reflects trustees' selections, potentially spanning diverse causes, with early grants totalling £158,900 in its first year (July 2022–August 2023), favouring small to medium-sized UK-registered charities operating anywhere, though concentrated in the UK.

Eligibility is strictly limited to UK-registered charities; non-UK entities, individuals, or non-charitable organisations are ineligible, with no income thresholds but a preference for smaller groups. Unsolicited applications are not accepted—trustees proactively identify and approach aligned organisations via personal networks, with no forms, guidelines, or deadlines. Decisions occur at regular, ad-hoc trustee meetings. Distinctively, its wholly private, family-governed model prioritises relational, interest-led giving over strategic programmes, differentiating it from themed or open-call funders and rewarding charities building trustee connections.
