Get Kids Going

Get Kids Going! is a national UK charity founded in 1997 by Jane Emmerson, dedicated to empowering disabled children and young people up to age 26 to fully participate in sport by removing financial and practical barriers. Its core mission is to provide equal opportunities for disabled youth to enjoy, progress, and excel in sports—from grassroots participation to Paralympic levels—through bespoke sports wheelchairs, specialist equipment, and direct grants for training, physiotherapy, sports psychology, travel, competition fees, and equipment development. Rooted in values of inclusion, opportunity, and transformative impact, the charity addresses funding shortfalls in disability sport, relieving family burdens and nurturing talent across all physical disabilities and sports like athletics, wheelchair rugby, skiing, boccia, and more.

It exclusively funds individual UK-resident disabled young people (not organisations), prioritising those with commitment, potential, or elite pathways, with grants enabling high-cost, specialist activities and sustained support for personal and sporting growth. Examples include long-term backing for Paralympians like David Weir and Aaron Phipps.

Eligible applicants are individuals up to 26 with physical disabilities; no organisational income limits or geographic restrictions within the UK apply. Typical grants range from £2,000–£7,000 (up to £10,000+ for equipment), awarded on a rolling basis via initial phone/email enquiry to discuss eligibility and obtain an application form—decisions take weeks to months based on funds.

Get Kids Going! does not fund charities, organisations, core costs, or non-sport purposes; it uniquely recycles outgrown equipment, builds long-term athlete relationships, and leverages events like the London Marathon for visibility, distinguishing itself through targeted, high-impact individual support in underserved specialist sports.
