Funding Network

The Funding Network (TFN), founded in 2002 by Frederick Mulder CBE and colleagues, is a pioneering collective philanthropy platform that pools resources from diverse individuals to support grassroots social change. Its mission is to catalyse positive impact for individuals, communities, and the environment by amplifying small, emerging UK charities tackling systemic challenges. Core values—collective giving, inclusion, openness, and empathy—drive its distinctive live crowdfunding model, where members make real-time funding decisions at dynamic events, fostering engagement, shared learning, and breakthrough support for overlooked organisations.

TFN funds broad thematic priorities including human rights, climate change, environment, health, education, social inclusion, mental health, youth empowerment, refugee/migrant support, gender equality, and community cohesion. It backs innovative projects delivering advocacy, outreach, service provision, and community development for marginalised and vulnerable groups, with a focus on tangible outcomes like empowered communities and sustainability. Grants enable seed funding, capacity building, and core costs for developmental-stage charities, evidenced by over £18 million raised for 2,500+ non-profits.

Eligible applicants are strictly UK-registered charities (England/Wales focus, UK-wide impact), prioritising small to medium-sized ones with incomes under £500,000 (up to £1m occasionally); unsolicited applications are not accepted—nomination by a TFN member sponsor is required. Typical grants range £3,000–£10,000 (up to £20,000), awarded at 5–7 adhoc live events yearly; next London event is 3 December 2025 (nominations 4–6 weeks prior). TFN avoids capital costs and rigid restrictions, uniquely elevating innovative, high-potential charities through participatory, democratic funding that builds lasting funder relationships.
