Fuel Allotment

Hampton Fund, formerly the Hampton Fuel Allotment Charity and established by Act of Parliament in 1811 with land donated by King George III, is one of England's oldest fuel allotment charities, rebranded in 2019 to reflect its evolved mission of alleviating poverty and hardship in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Rooted in royal philanthropy and parish support for the vulnerable, it now provides grants to low-income residents and local organizations in Hampton, Hampton Hill, Hampton Wick, Teddington, Twickenham, Whitton, and Heathfield, focusing on fuel poverty, essential household items, school uniforms and education (including for children with disabilities), and community services tackling health, well-being, and social exclusion. Its distinctive approach emphasizes sustainability through endowment preservation, evidence-based needs assessment, community consultation, transparency, and strong governance to maximize long-term impact.

The fund supports project funding, core costs, capacity building, revenue for direct services, community centre improvements, emergency aid, and occasional capital grants, prioritizing initiatives that directly benefit specified local residents and demonstrate financial hardship or community value.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities and community groups of all sizes serving the defined areas; no income limits apply, and unsolicited applications are welcome. Typical grants range from £700 to £79,200 (averaging £10,000–£40,000 for organizations), submitted via online form after consulting the Community Grants Manager. Quarterly trustee meetings occur in March, June, September, and December, with deadlines 6-8 weeks prior—the next is 18 December 2025—and decisions communicated 4-8 weeks later.

Hampton Fund excludes funding outside its geography, non-poverty-related activities, or projects without proven local benefit, standing out as a historically significant, high-impact supporter with deep community ties and a holistic view of deprivation.
