Equilibrium Foundation

The Equilibrium Foundation, established in 2010 by Colin Lawson of Equilibrium Financial Planning, is a UK-based grant-maker dedicated to improving lives in North West England through targeted support for education, disability services, poverty relief, health advancement, and opportunities for disadvantaged individuals aged 16 and above. Rooted in values of social responsibility, inclusion, and long-term impact, it emphasizes practical community engagement—staff and volunteers actively participate in giving, mentoring, and workshops like financial skills programs for children—while holding the highest Payroll Giving Award status. Its distinctive approach blends financial grants with hands-on involvement to empower marginalized groups, including disabled people and youth facing layered barriers, fostering skills, confidence, independence, and employability.

The Foundation prioritizes projects enhancing these areas, such as employability pathways for those with Down Syndrome, skills training for deprived young people in North Manchester, volunteer mentor programs for unsupported youth, and inclusive community events. It funds both project-specific initiatives and unrestricted core support for small charities, focusing on grassroots efforts addressing education, mental health, and community development with sustainable outcomes.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities (or HMRC-exempt equivalents) with incomes under £500,000, a main office in Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, or Cumbria, and work primarily in these regions. Unsolicited online applications are welcomed via dedicated forms; 2025 Annual Grant Awards run 10 March–16 May (decisions in August), with Community Support Scheme deadlines twice yearly (next: 7 September 2025, up to £500). Typical grants reach £30,000 for larger awards.

Unlike broader funders, Equilibrium exclusively backs small, local grassroots organizations overlooked by national streams, avoids capital costs outside its skills-focused remit, imposes no religious restrictions, and stands out for its active volunteer integration and regional specialization in maximizing community-level change.
