Cystic Fibrosis Trust

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust, established in 1964 by parents and clinicians, is the UK's leading charity dedicated to transforming lives affected by cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-limiting condition impacting over 11,000 people. Its mission is a world where CF no longer limits lives, achieved through pioneering research, NHS care improvements, practical support, and advocacy. With a community-co-designed, evidence-based approach, it invests in Strategic Research Centres with UK universities (e.g., antimicrobials at Newcastle, gene therapies at Cambridge), open grants like Development Awards and Summer Studentships, the UK CF Registry, clinical trials, mental health initiatives, hardship relief, and policy campaigns for drug access and care standards.

It prioritises projects delivering direct patient benefits in CF research, clinical care, data infrastructure, wellbeing, and transitions to adulthood, funding UK-registered charities, academic institutions, NHS Trusts, and multidisciplinary teams with strong CF track records. Individual grants support low-income people with CF (via NHS clinicians) for health, rest, and hardship needs. UK residency and CF focus are required; no religious restrictions apply.

Grants range from £200–£850 for individuals, £15,000–£30,000 for Development Awards, and £500,000–£1m+ for major research over multi-years. Unsolicited applications accepted via stages: EOI then full for organisations (annual calls, currently closed; next timelines TBA); direct forms for individuals every two months (next deadline 18 November 2025, panels bi-monthly). Exclusions include unrestricted core costs or non-CF activities.
