Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS General Charitable Fund

Cwm Taf Morgannwg NHS General Charitable Fund is the official charity of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, renamed in April 2019 to reflect its expanded South Wales footprint across Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and Rhondda Cynon Taf. Established to deliver support beyond NHS core budgets, its mission focuses on relieving illness and disability while advancing health-related education and training. Guided by values of collaboration, local responsiveness, and community benefit, it empowers patients, staff, and volunteers through tangible enhancements to care experiences, staff welfare, and service innovation, with governance led by the Health Board and a dedicated Charitable Funds Committee.

The fund prioritises patient welfare via amenities like furniture, digital entertainment, and paediatric play areas; staff wellbeing through training, facilities, and resources; medical equipment for diagnostics and therapy; research fostering excellence; and community health extensions. All initiatives are NHS-aligned, staff- or patient-nominated, and bottom-up driven to address frontline needs.

Exclusively internal to the Health Board, it supports wards, departments, and units—no external charities or unsolicited applications. Eligible requests must benefit patients/staff in the specified areas, with no income thresholds or religious restrictions.

Grants typically range from hundreds to tens of thousands of pounds (most under £50,000 via delegated authority; larger via committee meetings, e.g., 22 January and 9 July 2025), processed rolling for smaller sums. It excludes core NHS costs, non-health activities, or duplicate public funding, distinguishing itself through deep NHS integration, evidence-led localism, and catalytic role in sustainable health improvements.
