Amjad and Suha Bseisu Foundation

The Amjad and Suha Bseisu Foundation, established in 2005 by Amjad and Suha Bseisu—first- and second-generation refugees—empowers young people and disadvantaged communities, particularly from the Levant (Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq) and Malaysia, through transformative education. Inspired by the founders' experiences, its mission centers on equal opportunity, empowerment, civil society, and education as the key to overcoming barriers like displacement, poverty, and limited access. With a deeply personal ethos, it prioritizes high-impact, evidence-informed philanthropy via partnerships with UK, US, Middle East, and Malaysian universities and charities, having supported over 137 scholars by 2024, emphasizing women and refugees in STEM fields.

It funds higher education scholarships (£16,000–£63,000 per student), completion grants, mentoring, and programme grants (£10,000–£50,000) for educational access, inclusion, capacity-building, and social mobility. Beneficiaries include talented youth, women, and refugees from targeted regions, alongside initiatives like Al Muntaha Tutoring (English for Arab children), Seenaryo (arts education for marginalized Lebanese/Jordanian youth), and partnerships advancing policy dialogue or autoimmune support. Thematic priorities encompass education advancement, poverty/sickness relief, and civil society, favoring sustainable, collaborative projects.

Eligible applicants are UK-registered charities and academic institutions (medium-to-large with programme delivery infrastructure); no unsolicited applications—funding flows exclusively through formal university or partner channels. No geographic base restrictions, but focus on Levant, Malaysia, UK, and global scholars from these areas. Rolling trustee decisions via partnerships; scholarship deadlines align with partners (e.g., UCL May 8, 2025). Excludes core costs, unrestricted/capital grants, or non-partner proposals. Distinctive for its refugee-rooted focus on cross-border STEM scholarships, women/refugee quotas, and leveraged partnerships maximizing social mobility.
